Exclusive: Android 'Jelly Bean' comes after Ice Cream Sandwich (update). Google may name Android 5.0 as JELLY BEAN

We're hearing from a trusted source this afternoon that the next version of Android after Ice Cream Sandwich will be known as "Jelly Bean," continuing Google's longstanding tradition of naming Android builds after sweet treats in alphabetical order. What we don't yet know is the version number -- in fact, Google has yet to say what Ice Cream Sandwich's version number will be, much less Jelly Bean's.

Additionally, our source tells us he's hearing that the "game-changing stuff" that had originally been scheduled for Ice Cream Sandwich is now being pushed to Jelly Bean, though we don't know exactly what those big features are. Since its launch at Google I/O in May, the implication has been that Ice Cream Sandwich will help unify Android's phone and tablet efforts -- represented right now by Gingerbread and Honeycomb, respectively -- into a single trunk, but beyond that, very little has been said about what ICS will bring to the table.

With rumors of the Ice Cream Sandwich-powered Nexus Prime from Samsung hitting a fever pitch lately, it seems likely that an announcement is imminent (in fact, Eric Schmidt has said as much), so hopefully we'll get some insight on where these two builds shake out very shortly.

Update: We're hearing from another well-regarded source that Jelly Bean is in the running for the name, but that the choice hasn't yet been finalized by Google; for what it's worth, the pickings are fairly slim for desserts with "J" names, so Jelly Bean seems like a solid choice. The source goes on to say that there are some fairly major architectural, functional, and design changes in Ice Cream Sandwich, so by all appearances, this is still going to be a big-time release. Of course, that doesn't mean Jelly Bean (or whatever Google ultimately calls it) won't have a big outing in its own right, but the indication is that ICS won't just be a warmed-over Gingerbread or Honeycomb.

Verizon Galaxy Nexus updated to 4.0.2; factory image released

Today’s a great day for Galaxy Nexus users on Verizon. Not only do you finally have the phone of your dreams in your hands, there’s good chance you’ve already seen an update that makes it even better.

Android 4.0.2 is rolling out for the the Verizon Galaxy Nexus in order to tackle some data issues, among other things. Weighing in at 10.6MB, software build ICL53F includes the following changes:

Device features

Optimized Mobile Hotspot when used with VPN Optimized 3G/4G data sessions for faster response times Fixed an incorrect notification that “data was disconnected due to roaming” WiFi now automatically reconnects when returning to a known Access Point Improvements to special visual effects feature when using front-facing camcorder Visual improvements to the lock screen

Email and Messaging

Fixed an issue where some email attachments would not open correctly

Apps and Widgets

DivX support has been removed and will be supported in a future upgrade Improved audio volume in Google navigation turn-by-turn directions

For the most part, the changes listed are pretty straightforward. The only bad thing is the loss of DivX support for the time being. But as Verizon has said, it will be brought back with another update in the future.

Users have reported that it only takes a couple hours for the update to 4.0.2 to hit their handsets, so if you haven’t seen it yet, just sit tight. It’s coming soon.

In other Verizon Galaxy Nexus software-related news, Google has already hosted a factory image for the device. Released just for those who will “be looking under the hood of their shiny new Galaxy Nexus,” you can download the image from the Google Groups Android Building page here. La smania per gli aggiornamenti ad Ice Cream Sandwich ormai è già iniziata da un pezzo e dopo le beta per Galaxy S II e la gamma Xperia oggi abbiamo altre buone nuove, questa volta a proposito di un update ufficiale: quello di HTC Sensation.

La notizia viene da una tabella di aggiornamenti della Packard Bell dove, come potete vedere dall’immagine, spicca l’aggiornamento di uno dei più importanti smartphone HTC di questo 2012, che avverrà a Febbraio.

Tra gli altri smartphone in tabella è presente anche il Galaxy S II con un non troppo confortante Aprile 2012 (ma è lecito aspettarsi che arrivi anche prima) e addirittura un TBD (to be defined, da definirsi) per l’Optimus LTE.

Google finally advertises their Samsung Galaxy Nexus on TV with two new commercials

The only other commercial of a “Nexus” device seen so far was of the Nexus S 4G, and it wasn’t even sponsored by Google. Well, that changes soon with a couple cleverly funny commercials made by the manufacturer. The first commercial embedded below is my favorite – a child tries unlocking his father’s Galaxy Nexus using the face unlock feature by making faces towards the Nexus. When all fails, he hopelessly hands the device over to his dad and finally gets to use the device. We all saw a commercial like this coming, and it was produced perfectly.

The second advertises Google+ Hangouts on the Galaxy Nexus, a great feature to video chat with multiple people. Whether you need to schedule a meeting with co-workers or just talk with a bunch of friends – Hangouts on the Galaxy Nexus will make it seamless. If it works half as well as it does in the commercial, then it would be safe to say video chatting on a mobile device has come a long way.

Unlike the other phones currently advertised, these two commercials actually bring brand new features to the table. I foresee this as the future trend with Google innovation products such as the Nexus. These commercials will have to satisfy you all for now, but check back in the morning for our unboxing of the Verizon Galaxy Nexus! Nokia Lumia 900 coming in February With Spec

Replying to a query from a customer about availability for the Lumia 800 and Lumia 900, the the Swisscom_Care Twitter feed revealed that the Lumia 800 will be available from January, followed by the yet-unannounced 900 “at the end of Feb”. Of course, this is by no means confirmation of the handset’s release, and Nokia is yet to comment on the rumours.

If the rumours are to be believed, the Nokia Lumia 900 handset will be the highly-specced sequel to the Lumia 800. On the spec-front, expect to see a 4.3-inch curved AMOLED touchscreen,  a 1.4GHz single-core processor and the next-gen iteration of Microsoft’s OS: Tango. We’re also expecting an 8 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and HD video, , 16GB of internal memory, HSPA+ connectivity and a 1800mAh battery.

Expect to hear more about the Lumia 900 at January’s CES.

I take no support for RFS file system
