Google Nexus One Android 2.3 Gingerbread update coming in February?

gno1The humble Google Nexus One will get an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread within the next few weeks — according to Google.
The Google Nexus One was designed to debut Android 2.1, but it’ll soon get the bump up to Android 2.3. Back in December, Google revealed that the update would soon come to the Google Nexus One,  but if it’s to keep on-schedule with this previous claim, it’ll need to release the update very shortly —
“The Gingerbread OTA for Nexus One will happen in the coming weeks. Just hang tight.”
With other Androids in doubt as to whether they’ll ever get an upgrade to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and some like the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 confirmed they won’t, we think Google Nexus One owners should feel smug rather than impatient. Currently the only device with Android 2.3 on-board is the Google Nexus S, released in December 2010.
Android 2.3 Gingerbread adds a host of subtle interface tweaks, a general speed boost to navigation, improved power management and support for NFC to the OS. The latter will be a bit useless though as the Google Nexus One doesn’t have its own NFC chip built-in.
What lesson can we learn here? If news of the next Android update leaves you shaking in anticipation, perhaps you should opt for an official Google handset instead of a third-party one plastered with a custom UI. Stay tuned for more UK availability details on the Google Nexus S, which some have blamed for the delay in the Google Nexus One’s update schedule.
